The unique SMI Suite architecture is designed specifically for the data retrieval challenges posed by HP ServiceCenter and HP Service Manager. The combination of SMI Foundation and SMI Report Manager components makes for an off-the-shelf solution that can be fully customized for your environment, but without the need for a data warehouse.
The SMI Foundation layer makes complex data understandable
SMI Suite takes the data in HP’s non-relational database and optimizes it for reporting performance by loading it into a dedicated, fixed, relational reporting database. Data components in array fields (e.g. Audit, Journal and Clocks) are parsed out so they can be easily reported on, and even the most hard to get to data (e.g. arrays, CLOBs, BLOBs) is translated into easily accessed reporting objects.
Experience maximum reporting performance with minimal impact on HP database
Reports are run against the dedicated SMI reporting database, which offers near real-time reporting while eliminating negative performance impacts on the HP database. The SMI reporting database includes many derived values, so that costly calculations are not required during the execution of reports.
An intuitive GUI lets you keep on top of changes to the HP database
Even non-technical users can update the data mapping between the HP database and the SMI reporting database by using our GUI interface – no coding or SQL knowledge is required. So even when the HP database changes, it’s easy to ensure that SMI Suite changes with it.
Don’t compromise on your security model
SMI Suite allows you to implement a truly comprehensive security model, with Active Directory® integration and role-based access restriction to HP Service Manager data.
Web-based or local client: the choice is yours
Give report creators access to a fully functional, but easily rolled-out web client, or deploy a powerful local client. The flexibility of the bundled Business Objects® solution opens up many possibilities.
Simplify data access to your IT service management data
The SMI reporting database provides single table access to all valuable process data, and can be accessed by multiple sources for reporting purposes. And because you can flexibly schedule data loads between the HP database and the SMI reporting database, performance impact need never be a problem.
